Just say "No" to Lift Operator BS

I was at El Dora with Scharf on Saturday, and after a pretty full day of snowboarding, we took a few snow skate runs on the green lift. I've been personally snow skating this same lift for two years, and five days already this year. The first lift ride up, both operators commented on the skates, one said "Braver than I am" and the other just asked if they were fun, usual stuff.

Then, we were loading up for our third and final run of the day, when a new lift operator walks up and says "I can't let you guys load up with those things." Now, given the background I just gave, I genuinely thought he was just joking, and laughed and said "You're joking, right?" He kept a straight face and said "No." I pointed to the leash, like I have ever other time this problem has arose, but he said "That doesn't matter."

All this time, no one stopped the lift, so by now the lift was ready to pick us up. Scharf side-stepped it to talk to the guy, but I just sat down and started up the mountain. I looked back and saw Scharf talk to the guy as one chair passed him, then he got back in the loading area, and caught the next chair up. No one said anything to us at the top of the run, so we just did our run and left for the day.

As Scharf said afterwards, he should have just gotten on the lift. We both had leashes, we weren't violating resort rules and we knew it. He would have had to discuss it with a co-worker in asking someone to talk to us at the top, and in that process he surely found out he was in the wrong, not us.
